Green with Envy

SummerSlam is in the books and it was an okay event.Night two was definitely better than night 1. The biggest take away from the show for me was Chelsea Green winning the ladder match to become the new WWE interim women’s champion. Last week, I praised Maya World for always being ready and committed to her craft and that led her to getting an AEW contract and the TBS Women’s title. The same praise needs to be bestowed on Green…perhaps a little more so.

I first took notice of Green when she worked for TNA under the moniker of Laurel Van Ness. Her personality and ring skills were very good. It wasn’t until she transformed into “The Hot Mess” in TNA/Impact that I really felt that she would be a perfect fit in WWE. She eventually got that opportunity but injuries set her back and I believe was fired not once, but twice by WWE.

It looked as if a run with the company was never going to happen. Chelsea turned to doing OnlyFans content and working independent dates. She eventually returned to TNA/Impact and that eventually led her to getting another shot in WWE. Chelsea made the most of her second/third chance and quickly rose up the ranks with her charisma and overall talent. This, despite some in the company who didn’t see her as anything but a glorified enhancement talent.

She was rewarded for her hard work by becoming a multiple tag team champion and then the inaugural women’s United States champion. Her TV time increased dramatically and fans got to see what I saw in her back in her TNA days. Now she is the WWE women’s champion and as a fan of hers, I am very happy.

The only thing that bothers me about her title victory is she is being referred to as an interim champion. What is that? Rhea Ripley was injured and had to vacate the title. Therefore, Chelsea Green should just be THE women’s champion. The interim part seems to lessen what she accomplished. Either way, congrats to her. Hard work and determination paid off well.
