Grappling with Tragedy is a series of articles that deal with unfortunate, tragic incidents that have occurred throughout the history of professional wrestling. It is unlike the ‘Wrestling with Sin’ series that deals more with the seedier side of wrestling like arrests, murders and suicides. Grappling looks more at particular tragic incidents that have in some instances altered pro wrestling in some way.

Damian Houston

Kevin Mailhot began his pro wrestling career right after graduating high school in 1999. He wrestled under the moniker of ‘The Dancing Devil’ Damian Houston. Mailhot competed for several New England based independent promotions. He was said to have had a great ring presence with charisma and athletic ability. Damian Houston was the younger brother of former WWE wrestler Brian Mailhot aka ‘Palmer Canon.’ Damian Houston and Johnny Curtis aka Fandango in WWE were a successful tag team on the independent circuit.

Mailhot’s career came to an abrupt end after suffering a serious shoulder injury. He retired from pro wrestling in 2003 and moved out west to San Diego, California where he began a career working with computers. Tragically, Kevin Mailhot was killed in a motorcycle accident on June 14, 2005. Mailhot was just 24 years old at the time of his death. His former tag partner Fandango paid tribute to Kevin Mailhot by writing his name Kevin on his wrist tape at Wrestlemania 29.
