Wrestling with Sin: 585

This is the 585th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Khan-troversy

The owner of All Elite Wrestling Tony Khan has been accused by a talent agent named Nick LoPiccolo of creating fake accounts on social media to bad mouth him, his family and former AEW talents. LoPiccolo who worked for the talent agency Paradigm represented such wrestlers like CM Punk, Roman Reigns and Tiffany Stratton. He was supposedly fired/let go by the agency and it was believed that Khan was somehow responsible by using his various connections.

LoPiccolo named various fake accounts that Tony Khan created to bad mouth him and his reputation over social media. A number of those so called fake accounts have since been scrubbed clean and deactivated. Tony Khan has yet to publicly address LoPiccolo’s accusations.

Grope Opera

In December of 1985, the Funk brothers were booked in Puerto Rico for Carlos Colon’s World Wrestling Council (WWC). They were booked against the Road Warriors in a stadium show that was filled with over 20,000 fans. The event was sponsored by Miller Lite beer and the wrestlers were allowed unlimited beer the entire show. Terry Funk took complete advantage of the offer and got completely drunk hours before the show.

According to his brother Dory Funk Jr, Terry grabbed a bunch of garbage while in the dugout as fans were filing in. Terry then ran out onto the field and threw the garbage at fans in the stands. He then took out a knife and slashed a large inflatable beer can that the sponsors brought to the show. Dory said the sponsors were livid and left the show in disgust before it started.

To make matters worse, Terry later in the evening, ran out onto the field again and groped a female security guard. The security guard slapped Funk and stormed off. The entire security staff walked off the job in protest, so Carlos Colon was forced to use the wrestlers themselves as security.

When the Funks were finally scheduled to wrestle in the co-main event, Terry could barely walk to the ring. Their opponents…Hawk and Animal were visibly pissed off. Before the match started, Terry stumbled off the ring apron and claimed to injure his back. His brother Dory was forced to work the majority of the match alone against a ticked off Road Warrior team.

When You Kurt Inside

Kurtis ‘Mad Kurt’ Chapman was an English professional wrestler who mainly competed for RevPro Wrestling in England. He was the Undisputed British Cruiserweight champion for that promotion. Mad Kurt began his career at the young age of 17 years old and wrestled names like Will Ospreay, Eddie Kingston and Trent Seven.

Chapman took a break from wrestling and had rekindled a romance with a former girlfriend. He then began accepting bookings to revive his career. He spent the Christmas holiday in 2023 with friends and family and afterwards checked into a hotel in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. He never left. His body was discovered in his hotel room. An autopsy revealed he died by hanging and it was ruled a suicide.

He gambled a bit, but had no outstanding debts. A toxicology report stated that Chapman had consumed some alcohol and had a small trace of Ketamine in his system. Kurtis Chapman was just 26 years old at the time of his death.

Killer At Lars

An independent pro wrestler based out of the Bay area in California named ‘The Sea Hawk’ Lars Luger (No relation to Lex Luger) was shot and killed in his home in Pleasanton, California in February of 2026. His mother was also shot and killed. According to local police, the shooter was a man named Allen Swadley, who had a relationship with a family member of the victims. No motive had been established as to why Swadley targeted the mother and her son as of this writing.

Luger was shot once in the leg and once in the chest. He and his mother died inside the home. Multiple firearms were recovered from Swadley’s home and vehicle. He was arrested and jailed without bail. Evan ‘Lars Luger’ Simonds was 28 years old, his mother Lori Simonds was 67.
