Wrestling With Sin: 546

August 25, 2025

Brian Damage

This is the 546th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Father’s Day

Roy Lee Lumpkin nicknamed ‘Father’ was a college football standout for the University of Georgia Tech. He ended up playing professional football for the Detroit Lions and the now defunct Brooklyn Dodgers. Lumpkin would become a pro wrestler to make extra money during the offseason. In fact, the Lions demanded that he quit pro wrestling as a side job and when he refused, he was cut by the team.

In May of 1931, Lumpkin was called to testify in the murder case of a 25 year old woman named Maude Worthen. She was shot to death and her body was discovered near a stadium in Portsmouth, Ohio on Thanksgiving night of 1930. The reason why Roy Lumpkin was giving a testimony, was because witnesses claimed he was seen with Maude Worthen consistently for two weeks straight before her murder. At the time, she was married to a grocery clerk named Arthur Worthen.

It was believed that Lumpkin and Mrs. Worthen were carrying out an affair, which the husband found out about and murdered his wife. Arthur Worthen pled not guilty and stated he believed that his wife shot and killed herself. The jury rendered a verdict of guilty to first degree manslaughter for Arthur Worthen. Roy Lumpkin was not considered a suspect in this case.

Take a Gamble

Ernie Roth better known as ‘The Grand Wizard of Professional Wrestling’ in the WWF, was a very successful manager for the promotion for several years having managed a plethora of champion wrestlers. One wrestler that Roth managed was Ken Patera, who he guided to the Intercontinental title. According to Patera, he absolutely loved Ernie Roth as a person, but had a very serious vice.

Patera called Roth a degenerate gambler, who loved to bet on the horses and often frequented casinos. Patera claimed that Roth, despite being one of the top managers in all of pro wrestling, was constantly broke. Roth often approached the McMahon family to lend him money or pay him ahead of schedule to pay off gambling debts. Patera said he would at times hit him up for 50 bucks here and there just to get bookies off of his back. Patera said when Roth died suddenly of heart attack in 1983, he never saw the money he loaned him.

White Out

The ex wife of wrestler Jake Hager (Jack Swagger in WWE)…Catalina White revealed that she is in a new relationship with reality TV star CT Tamburello. There are some rumors floating around that Jake Hager and Catalina fought often about the content she was adding to her OnlyFans site and that was one of the reasons that led to their divorce. Regardless of that, Catalina has since moved on with Tamburello, who is most known for appearing on MTV’s ‘The Challenge.’

The couple met through a mutual friend. They have both been active on her site and even filmed a sex tape for subscribers. To view the movie, the couple is asking for $200.

The couple eventually split up in November of 2024, with Tamburello accusing Catalina of cheating on him with multiple men. He went on social media to show all of her racy texts with other men, including Pro wrestling and MMA journalist Ariel Helwani. Tamburello has since removed the texts from his social media accounts and it appeared that the couple reconciled.

What A Manu-ver

In October of 2024, Afa Anoa’i Jr…better known as ‘Manu’ during his WWE run in 2009…was caught on camera shooting on a young wrestler during an independent show for Outlaw Pro Wrestling. Afa Jr open hand slapped the 18 year old wrestler and then proceeded to legitimately stomp and kick the young man repeatedly until the referee in the match decided to call the match off and award the victory to Afa Jr. The reasoning behind the brutal assault was because Afa Jr became upset with his opponent wrestling as a Samoan…even though in reality he was Puerto Rican.

Afa Jr. was quoted as saying, “This is not cosplay. You had some bad advice from some bad fcking trainers…because I don’t play wrestling…I bled for this sht…my family bled for this sht for generations. I’m not gonna let some Puerto Rican sht put a skirt on and pretend he’s Samoan. Now acknowledge me, the real f*cking Bloodline.” Promoters for Outlaw Pro Wrestling confirmed that the incident was indeed a shoot and would no longer do business with Afa Anoa’i Jr. As for the victim of the assault, he was treated for minor injuries including a swollen lip and face and bruises on his chest and stomach.

Great stuff again. Never knew Wizard had a gambling problem. Afa Jr. handled the situation very poorly. No need to beat the man up.
