This is the 540th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Not Kliq-ing

Debra ‘Madusa’ Miceli admitted to carrying on an affair with a married man while wrestling for the WWF as Alundra Blayze back in 1995. Miceli refused to mention the individual’s name, but did say the two both ended up in WCW after the affair ended. Tammy Sytch would reveal that the married man Miceli was sleeping with, was none other than Kevin ‘Diesel’ Nash. Sytch said that Miceli was the original “Klig chick.”

Sytch said Miceli and Nash had a bad split and that eventually led to the Kliq getting in the ear of Vince McMahon to end the women’s division thus getting all the female wrestlers fired including the reigning champion in Miceli. Miceli detailed her relationship with the anonymous man saying he had a great deal of power and influence within the company at the time. Miceli said she was with him for a while, because he was promising to get a divorce from his wife.

Miceli said that Nash offered to pay for her breast augmentation surgery himself and making plans for their future together. Eventually, however, Nash decided to remain with his wife and that caused a huge fight between Miceli and Nash. So much so, she says while she was off recuperating from surgery, he and his friends pushed to end the women’s division and succeeded…thus confirming Tammy Sytch’s claim. Sytch approached her and Chyna to write a book together entitled the Kliq Chick Diaries which would reveal stories about all three and their time dating members of the Kliq. Unfortunately, that book idea by Sytch never got off the ground.
Rocky Decision

Rocky Montero was a wrestler who competed for various NWA territories in the 1960’s and 70’s. He was considered a solid worker who made his opponents “look like a million bucks.” Montero was mostly used as an undercard wrestler, who lost more matches than actually won. By 1980, Montero was still wrestling in the Pacific Northwest territory in Portland, Oregon.
In October of 1980, Montero (45 at the time) was arrested and charged with raping a 13 year old girl. According to the underage victim, she had approached Montero after a wrestling show in Salem, Oregon for an autograph. Montero allegedly took the girl into his car and drove a few blocks away from the auditorium where he had just wrestled and sexually assaulted her. Initially, Montero pled Not Guilty…but eventually pled “no contest.” The judge in the case, Clarke Brown sentenced Montero to a 500 dollar fine and one year probation.
Many residents in the area demanded that Judge Brown resign from the bench and called him out for his lighter than normal penalties to criminals. Judge Brown ultimately retired in 1987. As for Rocky Montero, his wrestling career ended the day he was arrested in 1980 and would disappear from the public eye after that.
Sell Mate

Tennessee promoter Nick Gulas was committed to making his son George a star for his territory. Nick made sure his son worked with all the top names in pro wrestling during his time. In 1979, Nick booked the NWA world heavyweight champion ‘Handsome’ Harley Race to defend his title against George in Nashville. To protect his son, Gulas paid Harley an extra 500 dollar bonus to go the distance…a full 60 minute draw with George.

During the match, the babyface George was starting to hear boos in the crowd from hometown fans. George started to get flustered and yelled at Harley to sell his moves better. The problem was, George was a horrible wrestler and Harley wasn’t about to make himself look foolish selling horrible punches. George shouted at Harley…“My Dad said sell!” meaning his father the promoter paid Harley to make him look better than what he was in the ring. The boos and heckling towards Gulas finally got to him and he ran into the crowd and started fighting with some of the hecklers. Harley went ringside to get George out of harms way and take him back to the dressing room to cool off.
Sick Sick Sick

Mexican wrestler Leonardo Carrera Gomez aka Damian 666 was detained in Los Angeles, California in 1996 after what was described as a psychotic episode. The incident occurred at an L.A. hotel at around 3:30 in the morning. Hotel staff called the police, after seeing the wrestler acting very erratic and yelling in Spanish. When police arrived they had to restrain Damian 666 who was uncooperative with them. Police also discovered drug paraphernalia at the scene.
Damian 666 was later released from his psychiatric hold the next day. Damian was in Los Angeles wrestling for an upstart indie promotion, who fired him once news got out after his arrest.

Pushing Gulas wrecked everything in the territory. Nick lost power in NWA, Tennessee territory area split apart and killed the area.

Wow, to hell with Rocky Montero and the judge who let him get off so easy. George Gulas truly was one of the worst. I don’t think you could even say he threw punches. More like some sort of weird overhead forearm type move. His push is what ended up splitting the Tennessee territory. Well, the Medusa/Nash situation sure goes a long way to explaining the sudden end of the Ladies division back in the day. .
