This is the 512th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

The Mighty Quinn

Eddie Quinn was a Boston born and raised wrestling promoter that introduced pro wrestling to the Montreal, Quebec, Canada area in the 1930’s. Wrestling proved to do quite successfully in Montreal, making Quinn one of the most powerful men in that territory. At the height of his success, Quinn earned about $350,000 a year. Quinn drove fancy cars and lived on a palatial estate in Montreal. He often hosted parties, where the Hollywood elite often attended. Stars like Dean Martin, Jackie Gleason and Eartha Kitt..among many others were spotted at his parties.

According to NWA legend Lou Thesz, Quinn also hobnobbed and did business with many from Montreal’s underworld. Thesz claimed that Eddie Quinn was well connected to the Montreal mafia and that helped Quinn become as powerful as he became in the wrestling industry. As rich and as powerful as Quinn had become….his biggest Achilles heel was his lavish lifestyle. He spent more money than he actually made and it eventually caught up to him.

Quinn was beloved by many in the business, but he was allegedly a drinker and a womanizer. He ultimately left Montreal after owing the government thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes. He quietly returned to the New England area practically penniless and in poor health. Eddie Quinn died at the age of 59 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.

Rick Rolled

In 1985, while working for the Florida territory…’Ravishing’ Rick Rude and his manager and friend Percy Pringle were driving through the suburbs of Tampa. Rude had just recently received news that his beloved grandmother had passed away. Pringle stated that Rude and his grandmother were very close, as she had raised him as a little boy.

As Rude sat in the passenger seat crying inconsolably, a fan who recognized Rude drove by and shouted….“Rick Rude Sucks!” Normally, as a wrestler, something like that would just roll off Rude’s back, but on this particular day, it set Rude off. Rude jumped out of the car at a stop sign and chased after the other car on foot. Rude caught up to the fan while he was at a red light…allegedly dragged the fan out of his vehicle and choked him into unconsciousness.

Percy Pringle yelled and begged Rude to get back into the car as he feared the two of them would be arrested. Rude complied and two drove off and never heard what happened to that unlucky fan.

School’s Out

Jared Evans started training to become a pro wrestler in 2014…first at Johnny Rodz school and then later Create a Pro Wrestling Academy run by Brian Myers and Pat Buck. Evans said that he made friends with wrestlers like Max Caster, MJF and a few others while in training. Evans said that he and his wrestling friends had a group chat that they all participated in. The chat was used to mainly to insult one another in a joking way, but Evans claimed that it developed into something much worse.

Evans alleged that MJF took it way too far and began bullying him online telling him to kill himself knowing full well that Evans was battling depression and had suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Evans claimed to ask MJF to stop, but that only fueled MFJ to bully him more and more. Jared Evans decided to go to his instructors and complain, but Evans said that he was the one that was blacklisted at the school and denied potential bookings due to the influence that MJF had as the star student.

Rumi with a View

Rumi Zama began her pro career in 1986 and became a star for multiple promotions in Japan. She was a one time title holder of All Japan Women’s main championship and also held various other championships. In 1992, Rumi helped create the Ladies Legend Pro Wrestling promotion and became that company’s top champion.

During and after her wrestling career, Rumi acted and did voice work for movies and TV series. She also dabbled in working in porn and also posed nude for photobooks. Sadly, Kazama died at the age of 55 years old in 2021. She had revealed that she was suffering from endometriosis just a couple of weeks before her death.
