This is the 395th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Turpin’s Time

Randolph Turpin was a professional boxer from England, whose biggest claim to fame was defeating Sugar Ray Robinson to become the world middleweight champion in 1951. That shocking victory made Turpin an overnight sensation. Randolph had to deal with several legal issues outside of a boxing ring, where his first wife claimed he was physically abusive and allegedly kicked her in the stomach once he found out she was pregnant with his child. The charges of domestic abuse were dismissed after a court case. The couple eventually divorced after his son was born.
A former girlfriend accused Turpin of rape and the case was settled out of court with Turpin paying the woman an undisclosed amount of money. Turpin was known throughout England as a playboy and a serial womanizer. He ultimately settled down and remarried having four daughters with his second wife. After a series of bad business deals, Turpin declared bankruptcy not once, but twice in his life.

With his boxing career over, Turpin turned to professional wrestling to make money. Promoters were quick to book him with little formal training because of his name value. Randolph Turpin wrestled for several years in England. Most of the money he made as a wrestler was seized by the government due to all the taxes he owed. On May 17, 1966…Turpin was found dead in his apartment. He had a gunshot wound to his head and chest. His 17 month old daughter also suffered a two gunshot wounds, but luckily survived her injuries. Investigators determined that Turpin’s death was a suicide, but his wife was not convinced…believing he was murdered and was made to look like he had killed himself.
Randolph had made several enemies during his lifetime including business partners who he owed money to, wrestling fans who hated him and husbands who claimed he slept with their wives. The police’s suicide ruling was never changed. There was a suicide note attached to the door to the room he was found dead in. The letter had stated that his wife should move back to Wales with their children, where she was originally from and not leave anything to his brothers or sisters who he was estranged from. Randolph Turpin was just 37 years old at the time of his death.
The French Connection

Maryse Ouellet got her start in WWE after being a contestant on their talent competition called Divas Search. Even though she did not win the competition, Maryse was offered a developmental contract in 2006. She was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, Kentucky to begin her training.

It was while in OVW, that Maryse met a fellow French Canadian in Rene Dupree. He was already established as a wrestler on the main roster having won the WWE tag team titles in La Resistance. He was sent back down to OVW for further training and character development. According to Dupree, it was their mutual French Canadian backgrounds that attracted them to each other.

The two would carry on a strictly sexual affair for several months. This, while Maryse had a boyfriend/fiancé back home in Montreal. The affair ended once Dupree was called back up to the main roster.
Pirate Smuggling

Pirata Morgan is a Mexican wrestler, who has been involved in the business for over 40 years. He got his start as a luchador at 16 years old in 1979. Morgan admitted that in his youth, he made money in the sex trafficking business. He said, “As a young man, I lived off women, it was as they say…‘pimp’.” Morgan continued by saying he was arrested, but said that he avoided serious jail time because someone paid a large sum of money to the authorities to keep him out of prison. Pirata Morgan doesn’t who or whom paid off the authorities, but he did say that the reason he shared his story is to help others avoid the same mistakes he made.
The Waiting Game

The Warlord of the Powers of Pain, recalled an incident that happened at bar in back in 1989. They were in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a WWF show. After the event, the Warlord, Barbarian and their manager Mr. Fuji went to a local bar to wind down. When they walked into the bar, the Warlord said that a patron threw a beer at them. The beer mostly hit the Barbarian in his face.

According to the Warlord, the Barbarian became livid and actually clotheslined the perpetrator so hard he came out of his shoes. The police were called and detained the Barbarian as the individual who threw the beer wanted to press charges for assault. The police officer on the scene, gave the person a choice…he could just walk away or he could press charges, but he would have to sit and wait in the back room for another squad to show up to take his complaint. The caveat was that the person would have to sit in the same room with the Barbarian who he wanted to press charges against. The individual looked at the Barbarian who was still seething and decided to just walk away instead.
