This is the 363rd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Cancel Colt-ure
In 1975, Mike Boyette (top of picture) teamed with Chris Colt (Middle) and were managed by Bill Colt (Bottom) in the Tennessee territories. One evening, while traveling to Nashville, it was Bill Colt behind the wheel with Boyette in the passenger seat and Chris Colt in the back seat. According to Bill (Chris’ kayfabe brother) Chris was drinking heavily and was very drunk. When he got drunk he supposedly became very angry and violent. On this particular night, Chris began punching Bill in the back of his head while he was driving.
Bill Colt was trying to ignore Chris the entire drive as he was the newer person in wrestling and wanted to be respectful. When Chris couldn’t get Bill’s attention, Chris started pulling on Mike Boyette’s long hair. Boyette turned around and warned Colt that if he did it again…he would kick his ass. Chris once again pulled Boyette’s hair and Boyette demanded Bill pull over the car which he obliged.
Boyette then screamed at Chris to get out of the car and fight him. Chris did and immediately punched Boyette in the face. Boyette then said that the punch was a freebie and next time he would pay the price. Colt allegedly charged Boyette and Boyette placed Chris in a guillotine choke hold. Chris passed out and Boyette released the hold allowing Colt to hit the pavement. Boyette then got in the driver’s side of the vehicle, put the car in reverse and attempted to run over Colt. According to Bill Colt, he had to forcibly move the steering wheel to prevent Boyette from running over Chris with the car. The team eventually split up citing Chris Colt’s issues with drinking.
It Ain’t Easy Being Sleazy
Pro wrestler and promoter Joey Ryan was accused of numerous improprieties from several women within the business which include sexual advances, assault and grooming underage girls among other accusations. In total, Ryan had seventeen different accusations levied against him. Ryan denied most of them and filed lawsuits against three of his accusers stating he lost thousands of dollars in revenue. Joey Ryan was then fired by Impact Wrestling and Ryan filed a 10 million dollar suit against them for “breach of contract.” Ultimately, Ryan said he would fdrop all of the lawsuits with the exception of the one against Impact.
One of his accusers is an independent wrestler named Corrine Mink. She claimed that she picked up Ryan at an airport for a show and Ryan groped her. Joey Ryan was defiant in stating that he never had sex with a woman without their consent and that the stories about him were fabricated. Since this occurred, Ryan has admitted to attending Sex Addiction courses in person and on Zoom to try and get himself better.
Choshu Me
In January of 2002, Keiji Mutoh departed New Japan Pro Wrestling to join its rival All Japan. New Japan’s founder Antonio Inoki was livid and blamed his booker Riki Choshu for the defection. Feeling disrespected, Choshu quit New Japan and decided to form his own wrestling promotion called Fighting of World Japan Pro Wrestling. Choshu also brought with him the one time “Ace” or top guy from New Japan with him in Kensuke Sasaki. Kensuke was trained under Riki Choshu and felt loyalty to his mentor in deciding to quit the promotion and help form the new organization.
Choshu’s promotion dealt with a lot of financial issues with wrestlers complaining of bounced checks. This, despite Choshu living a very lavish lifestyle which included buying a tour bus, parties and a new car for himself. All in all, Choshu had spent close to 200 million Yen (1.8 million dollars) on himself while his promotion was struggling to turn a profit. His right hand man and good friend Kensuke Sasaki loaned Choshu 5 million yen (45,000 dollars) of his own money to help the World Japan promotion stay open.
That put Sasaki and his wife…fellow wrestler Akira Hokuto is serious debt themselves. Sasaki was forced to wrestle several independent shows to help pay bills for his family. By 2003, Choshu decided to fold the company leaving Sasaki to practically beg for his job back with New Japan. Choshu never paid back the money Sasaki invested and their friendship broke off.
.205 Drive
WWE star Jimmy Uso was arrested in July of 2021 for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence. It is the second DUI arrest in the last two years and the fifth DUI arrest overall. Uso was pulled over in Pensacola, Florida after police noticed Uso run a red light and swaying in between lanes. After being stopped, Jimmy Uso reportedly admitted to having a few beers before getting behind the wheel of his vehicle.
The police officer administered a breathalyzer on scene and his blood alcohol level came back as high as .205 (The legal limit in the state of Florida is .08) Uso was booked and held in jail until the next morning when he was released on a 500 dollar bond. Jimmy Uso’s wife and fellow WWE star Naomi deleted her twitter account after receiving numerous messages from fans blaming her for his conduct.
