This is the 350th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Smooth As Silkin

Cary Silkin was once a publisher of a wrestling magazine in Puerto Rico. He would later gain fame as the owner and operator of Ring of Honor from 2004 until 2011. It was Silkin as ROH owner that helped the promotion expand globally to places like the United Kingdom and Japan. He also had a great deal of influence in getting Ring of Honor a television deal and on pay per view. Many credit Silkin for not only saving the company from impending doom, but helping it grow and flourish in the mid 2000’s.

Before his days in the wrestling industry, Silkin lived and worked in New York City. He was a ticket scalper and an admitted drug dealer. One of Silkin’s biggest clients and friends was comedian John Belushi. The two met in 1978 and was invited on the set of Saturday Night Live, where Belushi first sampled Silkin’s cocaine. Silkin claims that Belushi had to borrow $200 from his SNL castmates to buy some of Silkin’s coke. Cary Silkin said Belushi returned to him an hour later looking to buy more of his cocaine. The two became friends while Belushi lived in New York.

John Belushi eventually died from a drug overdose in Los Angeles in 1982 at 33 years old. The drugs were not from Cary Silkin at the time of his death.

Dog Fight

Bobby Heenan recalled a story in where ‘Mad Dog’ Maurice Vachon was at a restaurant eating in a booth. A man walks up to Vachon’s table and sits down without asking. Vachon takes his fork and proceeds to wipe it clean while saying to the man…”You are about to make the biggest mistake of your life.” The man got up from the table and left the restaurant. Vachon noticed the man walk across the street and was joined with a small group of friends.

Seeing that this group might be looking for trouble…. Vachon called his brother and fellow wrestler ‘The Butcher’ Paul Vachon and told him to meet him at this particular restaurant. After Vachon finished his meal, he got up left the restaurant and crossed the street to where this group of friends were. Before a word could be uttered, Vachon assaulted the man that sat at his table.

Mad Dog then picked the man up and started running to throw the man through a store front window. Before Vachon could do it, he tripped and fell. Angered that he fell down, Vachon got up and kicked the man as hard as he could ripping his shoe in the process. Vachon’s brother finally arrived on the scene and saw the carnage Mad Dog had done. Mad Dog apparently gloated to his brother and said that ‘You see what you miss when you are late?’

Drowning in Depression

Mirai was a Japanese wrestler who began her career at the age of 18 years old. She wrestled for All Japan Women’s Wrestling. Just six months into her career and she decided to go on a hiatus citing mental issues that included depression. She would return to wrestling sporadically competing for various Japanese independent promotions. Her diary revealed that her battle with depression led to a suicide attempt in early 2005.

In September of 2005, Mirai was discovered unconscious in her bathtub at her apartment. She was pronounced dead a little while later. Even though Mirai was suicidal, her death was ruled an accidental drowning. She was on various medications to battle her depression. Her family requested that there be no memorial service. Mirai real name Chiemi Kitagami was just 22 years old.

The Sting

Musicians/Wrestlers The Insane Clown Posse (Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope) were members of WCW’s roster from 1999 until 2000. ICP member Shaggy 2 Dope went on to accuse one of that promotion’s top stars of being a rat. Shaggy was on a podcast in May of 2021 and was playing word association. When the name Sting came up, Shaggy responded by saying….. Sting, dick. He’s a rat. He f*cking told on all the wrestlers who were cheating on their wives. Just ratted them out. He turned f*cking Christian and ratted all of the boys in the back, told all their wives that they were all f*cking bitches.

Sting who became a Born Again Christian in 1998, admittedly had his own fair share of extramarital affairs before turning to God. As of this writing, Sting has yet to comment on the accusations made against him.
