This Week in Wrestling: Week 6 of 2026

A few AEW stars made the news the past couple of weeks for talking about WWE. Some comments were more stinging than others. New AEW women’s champion Thekla said that she chose AEW over WWE, because she didn’t want to be controlled by the company. AEW world champion MJF said something along the lines of AEW is like fine dining while WWE is a fast food burger. The one wrestler that really made headlines, however, was Ricochet.

Ricochet said that WWE killed his love of professional wrestling, while at the same time ruined his legacy in wrestling. Ricochet claimed that once he “graduated” to the main roster from NXT, his career went downhill. Ricochet said he wanted to quit WWE, but Triple H wouldn’t let him. Instead, he was awarded the Intercontinental title to make him happy…which he didn’t want. He also said that WWE ruins legacies and named some current wrestlers like Apollo Crews and Finn Balor.

Reportedly, some people in AEW management want Ricochet to stop using social media to badmouth the competition. Ricochet’s wife Samantha agreed with her husband and tweeted that instead of arguing with him, you may learn some things about WWE. Tommaso Ciampa who left WWE to join AEW stated that he doesn’t have anything negative to say about his former employer. So why all the hostility from Ricochet?
Some wrestlers fit better in different promotions and while Ricochet had some success as a mid card talent in WWE, he never became the star he was on the independents and in places like New Japan. Mainly, in my own opinion, because WWE is more of a character driven company and Ricochet’s personality just never meshed well. Regardless, Ricochet is happier where he is now and good for him. Instead of using social media and podcasts to run down your former employer, use it to bolster yourself and your current home of AEW.
I have never been a fan of wrestling tribalism, but certain people within the business do it and keep it going by acting up on social media. For the most part, everybody from AEW, WWE and TNA get along with each other outside of the ring. It’s okay to prefer one company over another, but to put down the competitor and wish for their demise is just silly.

Looking at that pic, how much can Ricochet complain about anything ever?
