This Week in Wrestling: Week 46 of 2025

TKO President Mark Shapiro caused a bit of a shitstorm with WWE fans when he made this comment…“Right now, a lot of our PLEs were really created by Vince McMahon. We need to get in the business of taking that torch and moving past that.” Those words, put many WWE fans into a frenzy as the thought was that TKO was ready to eliminate some of the company’s most treasured events like the Royal Rumble, Summerslam, the Survivor Series and Wrestlemania. Keep in mind, Shapiro is the same man that openly criticized McMahon for making tickets to shows affordable to families and not capitalizing on putting advertising on and around the ring. It seems like Mark Shapiro and TKO want to eliminate anything and everything associated with the former CEO of the company.

Thankfully, a clarification was made and some anonymous source within WWE stated that the aforementioned events will remain intact. It’s the other lower PLE’s that will probably be on the chopping block. That most likely will be shows like Backlash, Elimination Chamber and Money in the Bank. Now for me personally, I love the MITB show. It’s my second favorite only behind the Rumble. I have read “reports” that Triple H isn’t too fond of the Money in the Bank concept. If true, I suspect that that PLE might be the first one to disappear. I hope I’m wrong.

The other minor shows are really interchangeable to me and have no real significance. Shapiro made reference to Wrestlepalooza as an example of new shows that will be seeing more of. I guess someone didn’t tell him that Wrestlepalooza was the name of an old ECW event long before WWE used it. In any case, I understand trying new and different show concepts to breathe new life into their PLE’s. If fans are going to cough up 30 bucks a month for ESPN +, then you better make it worth their while.
