This Week in Wrestling: Week 3 of 2026

The biggest story out of wrestling this week was the controversy surrounding the AEW signing of The Rascalz (Wes Lee, Zachary Wentz, Myron Reed and Trey Miguel). All four men were announced as signed by AEW, but when they debuted last week, only three appeared on TV. Conspicuous by his absence was Trey Miguel, who took to social media to ask for privacy and not to tag him in anything wrestling related.

Immediately, fans began to question Trey being M.I.A. From the Rascalz AEW debut. It became even murkier when it was announced that Trey was released from AEW, just one day after the group was signed. It was being reported that Trey’s release came from above Tony Khan. Weird, considering he is owner of AEW…so who was above him? It turned out that Warner Brothers Discovery which owns TBS and TNT networks own a 10% stake in the wrestling company.

Apparently, they wanted nothing to do with Trey Miguel being on their networks…much like when the Briscoe Brothers were brought in by Khan a couple of years earlier. In the case of the Briscoes, old social media posts resurfaced which were deemed offensive. Therefore, the Briscoes were held off AEW television. Trey Miguel had the same problem, when he got into an online spat with former wrestler David Starr a few years ago. Many of Trey’s comments were deemed offensive and therefore was cut by AEW.

So, while it is being reported that WBD management made the call to rid themselves of Trey Miguel before he ever set foot in an AEW ring…my question is…who let WBD management know of these old posts in the first place? Nobody can convince me that these suits did their due diligence and scoured the internet looking for anything from these four wrestlers’ pasts. I just do not believe they are well versed in pro wrestling to begin with.

To me, someone or some people had to sound the alarms that these old posts existed and alerted upper management. Obviously, it wasn’t Tony Khan, because he signed all four men to begin with. Was it someone else in his circle? Was it a wrestler with a grudge? Perhaps a fan with an ax to grind? We may never know. What we do know is it could have ended Trey’s wrestling career, but thankfully for him, he was able to return to his old stomping grounds of TNA.

What is really bizarre, is that Trey’s former Rascalz partner Zachary Wentz was fired by WWE after his ex posted a photo of him doing a Nazi salute. Why is Wentz now clear to wrestle for AEW? Some fans have pointed out that current AEW world champion MJF’s wife Alicia Atout was the former girlfrend of Trey Miguel. Did MJF or his wife go to upper management? Who knows? What was supposed to be a great moment for the Rascalz and AEW turned into a headache.

Congrats to Maria Kanellis and Mike Bennett on the birth of their third child.

Congrats to Marissa McMahon (Wife of Shane O’Mac) and a former WWF host on being nominated for an Academy Award for producing a film entitled ‘Train Dreams.’ Not exactly a Slammy, but an Oscar will suffice…

The now retired ‘Ace’ of New Japan Pro Wrestling Hiroshi Tanahashi cut off his famous long hair.

It’s very sad that we can’t have our own personal opinions about things anymore.

Of course it was Alicia and MJF. Look at their history with Britt and they very well may be why she’s still sitting at home. They appear to be petty people and MJF doesn’t seem to have much respect for Tony other than being happy to take his cash.
I could see some angry fans upset about his past posts but let’s face it, that’s not getting to WBD management that quickly, if ever.
Overall just another bad look for AEW.
