In this world of the internet, with numerous social media platforms…there have been countless individuals who have become “viral” and have found fame and fortune. Whether it is making comedic videos, talking about food or even just playing video games…there are so many “famous” personalities out there on the world wide web. In the wrestling world, an old promo from a wrestler named ‘Jumpin’ Jeff Farmer went viral for all the wrong reasons. It was perhaps one of the worst wrestling promos of all time, but it created a somewhat legend in Jeff Farmer.

The video clip stems from a wrestling organization called International Pro Wrestling based in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was owned and operated by Bill Ash, who also worked as a wrestler for that company. IPW was founded in 1988 and could be seen in places as far as Tulsa, Oklahoma and New Orleans, Louisiana. The show was hosted by Buddy Lee, who also conducted backstage interviews. The tagline for the program was “Wrestling the way it should be.” It featured such talents as Richie Rouge, Odell Buckingham, Tony the Spider, The Bulldozer, Motley Cruz, Gorgeous JR and of course…’Jumpin’ Jeff Farmer. The infamous promo by Jeff Farmer was as follows…

“Yip… probably the hardest match I ever had in my life. But I don’t like it… when things aren’t maa… goin’ my way. Motley Cruz, you turned the tables on me. You turned the tables in the wrong way. You got me… mad now. I’ve stood around, I’ve listened to everything you had to say. I did everything necessary. But when you turn around, and you backstab me one way or another, and you treat… cheat me out of what’s rightfully mine, that’s when I get angry! Now I’m the one doin’ the challengin’! I’m issuing a challenge to you, Motley Cruz! Get in the ring with me! This time, I’m goin’ full force!”

The promo went viral on the internet and has been viewed over a million times and shared thousands upon thousands of times. It generated many responses from fans with some positive, some negative and many sarcastic. Some of the comments included…

THE VERY BEST PROMO IN PRO WRESTLING HISTORY!!! HANDS DOWN!!!

You could practically smell the fear on that kid.

“Yep.” He could have stopped right there and been good as far as I’m concerned.

One thing was for sure, that promo generated a lot of interest in Jumpin’ Jeff Farmer and he became a quasi-internet sensation.

So what about Jumpin’ Jeff Farmer? The info is courtesy of wrestler/podcaster Gregory Iron and his Iron On Podcast.

Jeff was a gymnast in high school. He served some time in the military (Air Force) and was a life long fan of professional wrestling. Farmer began his pro training in 1984 and wrestled for various independent groups in the south. At one point, Farmer was ready to quit the wrestling business due to lack of money, but says that talking to Randy Savage convinced him to keep going. He was an admitted ‘thrill seeker,’ who always looked to try to get an adrenalin rush by doing things like skydiving and bull riding.

Jeff Farmer never wrestled for any of the big league promotions like WCW, ECW, AWA or WWF in any capacity. Despite this, Farmer’s career spanned over 14 years and according to him, never suffered any major injuries. It was during one of those thrill seeking times that ultimately ended his wrestling career. In 1998, Farmer was riding a bull, when he was hit by the animal and suffered 3 cracked ribs, dislocated shoulder, cracked cheekbone and injuries to his ankle and knee. Farmer wrestled one more match, two weeks after that incident and suffered a concussion. Jeff Farmer knew it was time to hang up his tights and retire.

Today, Jeff Farmer works with horses and lives a very simple life in Columbus, Mississippi. For the very few who may not have seen this epic promo, or just want to refresh your memories…here it is in all its glorious entirety.

Yip! That’s all folks!
