The ‘If Factor’ are a series of articles that takes a look at real scenarios in pro wrestling that at one point or another were suggested, planned, considered…but did not get the green light to continue. What would the landscape of professional wrestling look like if these ideas came to fruition?

The If: Sting Wrestles The Undertaker in WWE

Sting versus the Undertaker had been a dream match in wrestling for years. The Crow versus the Dead Man…Icon vs Icon…Darkness vs Darkness. While fans clamored for this match to happen…it never materialized in WWE. That doesn’t mean it did not almost happen. Because in 2014, it could have very well occurred.

According to Sting himself, he was finaly getting out of his contract with TNA wrestling. He immediately thought about the potential for this epic match up and placed a call to both Vince McMahon and Triple H. Sting asked if there was any interest on their side about bringing him in to the company. Almost without hesitation, they wanted to bring the Stinger into WWE.

Sting suggested a match against the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 30, but unfortunately, plans were already in place for the Undertaker to face Brock Lesnar. The writing was on the wall and Sting never got his dream match with the Undertaker. Sting did eventually arrive in WWE in 2014, but the match he desired most never went down. Should Vince have changed the Wrestlemania card to feature Sting against the Undertaker? Would Sting have been the one to end the Undertaker’s streak? Would that match been worth all the wait for?
