The ‘If Factor’ are a series of articles that takes a look at real scenarios in pro wrestling that at one point or another were suggested, planned, considered…but did not get the green light to continue. What would the landscape of professional wrestling look like if these ideas came to fruition?

The If: Lance Storm is Eric Bischoff’s Son
When Lance Storm joined WCW in the Summer of 2000, he was not looked at favorably by the company’s upper management team…mainly that of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo. In fact, it was Bischoff who said that Lance “simply didn’t have it” as a pro wrestler. Vince Russo pretty much felt the same way. According to Lance Storm, Russo wanted to ‘cut bait’ with the talented Canadian wrestler feeling he would not get over with WCW fans.
Russo felt that Storm had no personality and to attempt to create interest in Storm as a character…proposed having Storm be revealed as the illegitimate son to Bischoff. Storm said that it took John ‘Ace’ Laurinaitis (who was a WCW front office executive) to step in and convince Russo to let Storm be himself and give him a few weeks with a solid push to become a star for the company. Storm credits Laurinaitis being the only one from WCW management to give him a fair opportunity. What if Vince Russo got his way and made Lance Storm the illegitimate son of Eric Bischoff? Would it have failed? Would it have destroyed Storm’s career?
