The If: Brother Love is booked to get a wife in 1995/1996
In late 1995, the WWF gimmick called ‘Brother Love’ portrayed by WWF executive Bruce Prichard returned to the airwaves after a brief break. According to reports, Vince McMahon wanted to add another character to the gimmick. The plan was to give Brother Love a wife who would be named ‘Sister Love.’ The idea was to get a beautiful woman to play the part and accompany Brother Love during his talk segments on the Brother Love show. Sister Love would be dressed all in white and have a red painted face just like Prichard’s character.
The first woman to be offered the role of Sister Love was ECW valet ‘The Queen of Extreme’ Francine Fournier. According to Francine, while intrigued by the offer and an opportunity to be a character in the WWF, she turned down the gimmick due to her loyalty to Paul Heyman and ECW. The gimmick wasn’t dead, however, as the WWF hired a Playboy model/turned actress in Ashley Allen. Allen had already appeared on Monday Night Raw during the Raw Bowl episode as Miss Raw Bowl.
The storyline would have Sister Love appear to be a loyal wife to Brother Love, but eventually be exposed as having an affair with an undetermined WWF superstar. Apparently, the storyline and gimmick involving Sister Love was ultimately scrapped after reports that Vince McMahon reconsidered that the storyline might be too controversial at the time. This was right before the launch of the Attitude Era. Would the Sister Love angle have worked? Was the idea just a little ahead of its time in the WWF?
