Welcome to another fact based edition of useless wrestling facts, stats and other stuff. Come for the wrestling facts and stay for the overwhelmingly useless information you will now retain. Some of these facts you may very well be aware of and some others perhaps not so much. They are all in fun, so let’s get learning!

Jim Ross is credited for coming up with the idea to make ‘The Rock’ refer to himself in the third person.

Bob Remus was watching an old movie on TV called ‘The D.I.’ starring Jack Webb. The movie inspired Remus to create a drill instructor gimmick which would become Sgt. Slaughter.

In the Fall of 1987, Bruce Prichard was given a try out by the WWF as a commentator under his real name. While he was not hired as an announcer, Prichard would eventually sign with the company and portray various characters including Reo Rodgers and Brother Love as well as become a high ranking executive for Vince McMahon.

While Jeff Cobb was trying to make it as a professional wrestler competing in Lucha Underground, he worked part time as an automobile mechanic to supplement his income. Cobb incorporated his mechanic’s overalls into his Mantanza Cueto character.

Cherry aka Kara Drew…was one of the final main roster call ups along with Deuce and Domino from WWE’s developmental relationship with OVW. She also holds the distinction of being Natalya’s first WWE opponent on TV and wrestled Vickie Guerrero in Vickie’s first ever singles wrestling match.

Jey Uso first appeared on WWF Monday Night Raw on December 22, 1997 at the age of 12 years old.

The Rock was briefly managed by Debra McMichael in 2001. Debra’s husband at the time…Steve Austin was against the idea…as was The Rock himself and the partnership quickly ended.

The total amount of money the WWF paid Marvel for the right to use the name ‘Hulk’ for Hulk Hogan came to $631,750.

In 1976, Vince McMahon’s construction company went belly up and he was forced to file for bankruptcy. Things became so bad, he was forced to put his house up for auction and their car was repossessed right from his driveway.

Bobby Heenan’s final wrestling match took place on August 2, 1991 at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York against Mr. Fuji.

In January of 1991, the WWF created the WWF Intercontinental Tag Team titles. They were deactivated in July of ’91.

The WWF Light Heavyweight title existed for 16 years prior to Taka Michinoku winning a tournament in 1997. It was primarily used and defended in both Japan and Mexico. The WWF did not recognize the title’s past history when it was brought back to the company.

A woman named Grace Hemindinger is considered the first female pro wrestler. She competed from 1875 until about 1878 and competed mainly against men. Josephine Blatt also known by her stage name ‘Minerva’ was a circus strongwoman who became a wrestler and was crowned the first women’s champion of any kind in 1890. While she was the first female champion…Cora Livingston was the first recognized women’s world champion as she competed in a structured female wrestling circuit. Minerva wrestled mostly at circuses and carnivals and mostly against men.

Owen Hart aka ‘The Blue Blazer’ made only one appearance on Smackdown. It was a backstage interview segment on the debut episode of the program on April 29, 1999.

Phil Theis aka Damian Demento holds the distinction of being in the main event of the very first episode of Monday Night Raw in 1993. He is also an accomplished artist and was put in charge by Vince McMahon to design and create the Abe ‘Knuckleball’ Schwartz look played by Steve ‘Brooklyn’ Brawler’ Lombardi.

AEW’s ‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry wore his late actor father Luke Perry’s leather jacket worn on Beverly Hills 90210 during his first heel promo.

One of the talked about names for WCW’s Monday Night show was ‘Head to Head.’ It was executive Brad Siegel who came up with the ‘Nitro’ name. Siegel named it after a block of TV action movies on TNT called TNT Nitro. Siegel figured that WCW was trying to attract the same audience that watched TNT Nitro programming…so the name WCW Monday Nitro was born.

WWF preliminary wrestler Sonny Rodgers holds a victory over ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in 1996. It was via forfeit.

Nattie Neidhart holds the WWE female records for most matches wrestled (1,514), most wins for a wrestler (663), most Wrestlemania appearances (8), most pay per view appearances (75), most appearances on Raw (174) and Smackdown (200).

The very first WWF licensed video game was called ‘Micro League Wrestling’ which came out in 1987. It was available on both the Commodore 64 and Atari gaming systems.

The WWF’s Brawl to End It All garnered the highest television rating for MTV in July of 1984, yet was the lowest attended Madison Square Garden card in over 14 years.

Tito Santana was once known as ‘Richard Blood’ during his wrestling career. It happens to be the real name of Ricky Steamboat.

David Flair is credited for being the first person to defeat John Cena in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) when Cena was known as ‘The Prototype.’

John Cena’s first WWE contract was for $12,000 a year.

Sasha Banks was called up from developmental to try out as Fandango’s new dance partner. She was featured on at least one house show, with the gig ultimately going to Summer Rae.

The Usos are the longest tenured tag team in WWE history. They have been together with the company for 13 consecutive years.

Since making his WWE debut in 2019, Gunther/Walter has lost only 2 matches in singles competition. They were at the NXT Takeover 36 and NXT weekly TV. Ilja Dragunov and Bron Breakker are the only wrestlers who defeated Gunther.

With her NWA Women’s title reign reaching 761 plus days and counting…Kamille Brickhouse surpassed June Byers and is now the 5th longest reigning champion in the title’s history.

Vince McMahon was/is very strict about not allowing anyone refer to him as “Junior.” First off, he really isn’t a junior, because he and his father have different middle names. Secondly, Vince always felt that it was a sign of disrespect to him as a boss and felt it was demeaning to him as a person. The only individual who was ever allowed to refer to him as junior up until the day he died was Gorilla Monsoon. Once Monsoon passed, nobody was allowed to call him that in his presence again.

Dominik Mysterio made history as the first wrestler to main event all three WWE TV shows in the same week. He and Damian Priest challenged Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the WWE tag team titles on Raw, wrestled and defeated Wes Lee for the NXT North American championship on NXT and then wrestled Butch in the main event of Smackdown.

Solo Sikoa’s name in real life is Joseph Yokozuna Fatu.

Dusty Rhodes wore polka dots in 1977…12 years before he wore them in his late WWF run in 1989.

Rey Mysterio has won championships in four different decades. The 90’s, 00’s, 10’s and the 20’s.
