Okay everybody, it is another edition of useless wrestling facts (As if you didn’t know) coming your way. Some of these you may already be aware of and others…perhaps not as much. In either case, they are all meant for fun, so let’s get crackin’ and let’s learn!


The famed Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee was only supposed to be the temporary home for pro wrestling in that territory. In 1971, the regular wrestling venue…Ellis Auditorium was being renovated, so the promoters moved their shows to the slightly larger Mid South Coliseum. The shows did so well in the newer venue that it became the new permanent home for Memphis wrasslin’.

NXT’s Karrion Kross chose his name by combining the names of two mythical characters. Charon the ferryman who took souls from the land of the living to the land of the dead and Cherion…the son of Cronus the god of time.

Tama Tonga had a verbal agreement to join WWE in 2016. He backed off the agreement once New Japan singed his brother Tonga Loa.

Terry Funk was once offered to made head booker in WWF to replace a retiring Pat Patterson in 1993. He turned down the offer because he said he hated New York City traffic.

Fabian Aichner became the first Italian born wrestler to win a WWE championship of any kind since Tony Parisi won the WWF international title in 1982.

Lou Thesz versus Rikidozan was and still is the most watched wrestling match in television history. The match did an outrageous 87.0 rating in 1957.

Savio Vega gave both Steve Austin and the Rock their very first losses in the WWF.

When Michael Hayes managed the Hardy Boyz in the WWF, he was 40 years old. He was younger than Matt (45) and Jeff (42) ae today.

The reason Demolition briefly wore masks in the WWF was because Vince McMahon felt that fans would get confused with too many face painted wrestlers. The Legion of Doom (Road Warriors) were also with the company at the time.

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle actually spent the majority of his full time active career with TNA and not WWE. Angle was a full time wrestler for WWF/E from 1998 to 2006. He was a full time wrestler for TNA from 2006 to 2016.

Vince McMahon’s last wrestling match was on October 8th, 2012. His opponent was CM Punk.

SummerSlam in 1992 was originally planned for Washington DC instead of Wembley Stadium.

‘Stunning’ Steve Austin competed in New Japan’s G1 Climax tournament back in 1992. He defeated Arn Anderson in the first round and then lost to Keiji Mutoh in the second round. This G1 was a single elimination tournament.

The finishing maneuver called ‘The Canadian Destroyer’ was created by Petey Williams. It was named in honor of a fellow wrestler/trainer ‘The Canadian Destroyer’ Doug Chevalier who passed away in 2000 at the age of 38 from heart failure.

Tito Santana handed The Undertaker his first WWF loss in Barcelona, Spain in 1991.

In 1999, Shawn Michaels was the special guest referee for a match between Mr. Gannosuke and Hayabusa for Japan’s FMW promotion.

In 2005, Diamond Dallas Page sued rapper Jay Z over use of the diamond hand gesture. DDP and Jay Z wound up settling out of court.

‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper never actually wrestled a match at Summerslam. He has commentated at the event and even made appearances…but never wrestled in one.

Trish Stratus retired as a full time wrestler back in 2006 at the age of 30…younger than Charlotte Flair is currently.
