A few years ago, I set a mission to discover the mysterious identity of a WWF “jobber” or enhancement talent nickname ‘Psycho Capone.’ I even wrote an entire article on him which you can read here. First of all, I thought his name was so cool and secondly, he had a rather interesting match against ‘Leaping’ Lanny Poffo at a Boston Gardens WWF house show back in 1986. My search led me to a football coach named Joe Wickline, who admitted in an interview that he wrestled briefly for the WWF back in the 1980’s. For a while, I thought I had found my man…only something never truly added up.

It seemed that the football coach Joe Wickline was indeed Psycho Capone, but he had stated that Jerry Lawler got him his WWF gig which didn’t make sense considering Lawler at that time wasn’t exactly an ally of Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation. Also, Wickline claimed he wrestled a WWF show in Oxford, Mississippi. After looking through records, there was no such show around that timeline.

The fact of the matter is, Joe Wickline simply wasn’t Psycho Capone. Honestly, I have no idea who Joe Wickline wrestled as in the WWF back in the 1980’s…if he had at all. The search for Psycho Capone continued…only it led me to multiple dead ends. Whomever it was, had an interesting backstory…that much I was sure of. He was trained by the legendary Walter ‘Killer’ Kowalski who as we all know trained Triple H, Chyna and Perry Saturn among others. He also went off script and shot on Lanny Poffo at a random house show. I really needed to find out who this wrestler was. Was he still alive? Was he dead? Why even care?!? Alas, I did and wanted to know.

Thankfully, I must give credit to a reader named simply ‘LC Carter’ who led me to the REAL ‘Psycho Capone.’ So thank you immensely for the tip! Psycho Capone’s real name is Scott Paul Colantonio and he resides in a place called Marshfield, Massachusetts. He obviously no longer wrestles. Instead, he is a contractor who restores old homes. He is also a musician and a singer who performs under the alias of Scott Cole. I had the privilege to briefly speak with Scott about his wrestling career as Psycho Capone and here’s what he had to say…

Ring the Damn Bell: Thank you so much Scott! So you wrestled in the WWF/WWE as Psycho Capone correct? Was it true that the legendary Killer Kowalski trained you? If so, how was he as a teacher? How long did your wrestling career last? When and why did you step away from pro wrestling? What was your fondest memory as a wrestler?

Scott Colantonio: Yes he trained me and tonight was our IWF dinner we have annually. Brittany Brown our woman’s champion hosts it every year and last year I made the hall of fame. Yes to wrestling in both IWF and WWF as Psycho Capone. Walter was tough, but great teacher and took his job very serious. Nice guy too . My career lasted 18 yrs total of and on I worked as Psycho Capone on the independent circuit mainly. I stepped away from pro wrestling after a few things happened I was in the dressing room and Tony Garea and I were talking and we became friends. He said to me…“Psycho get out of this profession you’re too smart for this.” because I was an entrepreneur in real estate and a professional singer singing now under Scott Cole . There were other personal reasons why I left also. Wrestling at the Boston Garden against Leaping Lanny Poffo…it made me who I am and famous.

Ring the Damn Bell: What exactly happened with Lanny Poffo? Was it true you tried to “shoot” on him?

Scott Colantonio: Yes, because I was trying to make a name for my self and it was live tv and they couldn’t edit it

🙂

Ring the Damn Bell: how did the Lanny and the WWF handle it?

Scott Colantonio: Ha Ha Not good and we will leave it at that.

Ring the Damn Bell: Scott, thank you so much for your time!

Scott Colantonio: Thx

So, Scott ‘Psycho Capone’ Colantonio really is a nice guy who has transitioned very nicely away from the squared circle. I am happy to see that. The mystery has been solved and we can finally close the Capone Vault. Until the next wrestling mystery…

  • You really should go back and dig a little deeper into how the wwf and lanny reacted

I agree about that. I looked for anything Lanny said about the incident and found nothing. I was to find more info, but nobody really talked about it much.
