This latest entry into the special Wrestling With Sin, deals with a once aspiring pro wrestler in training, but delves much deeper into a world of steroids, love affairs a worldwide manhunt and of course…murder.

Markus Mueller was a German immigrant, who came to the United States searching for fame and fortune. He was a young, professional bodybuilder who also tried his hand at acting, music and pro wrestling. Mueller began training to become a wrestler in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1992. He never really made into the wrestling business although, he did appear for AAA under the ring name of Wally the Wall.. While not having much success in any of those fields, Mueller was also involved in selling steroids to various gyms across the country. This business was quite lucrative for Mueller.

An associate of his in the steroid business was a man named David Beiber. He was also a pro bodybuilder and known steroid abuser. Bieber and Mueller were not only working together in dealing steroids, but they were also dating the same woman. Danielle Labelle was initially dating Mueller, but eventually started cheating on him with Bieber.

Bieber and Labelle would eventually marry, but Labelle continued seeing Mueller on the side. A few days after marrying each other, Bieber hatched a plot to remove Markus Mueller from the picture, both as a love and business rival. Bieber hired a dimwitted, yet impressionable 17 year kid named David Snipes. Bieber paid the teenager $1000 to take out his rival. Snipes borrowed a .38 revolver from his next door neighbor to carry out the hit.

On February 9th, 1995…Snipes walked up to Markus Mueller, who was entering his home in Bonita Springs, Florida. Snipes shot Mueller three times…twice in the torso and once in the head. He then tossed the gun in the bushes and fled the scene. Danielle Labelle found Mueller’s body while coming to visit him. Markus Mueller was 29 years old at the time of his death.

Police interviewed David Bieber about the murder of Markus Mueller, but let him go due to lack of evidence at the time. Bieber realizing he was on borrowed time changed his name to Nathan Wayne Coleman, stealing the name from a gravestone he saw of a 6 year old boy who died in 1975 and fled overseas to France and later ended up in England. As for David Snipes, he eventually confessed to killing Mueller and received a life sentence.

The international manhunt for Bieber began and was even featured on an episode of America’s Most Wanted. Bieber settled in under his new identity in Yorkshire, England, became a nightclub bouncer and got married to a woman named Denise Horsley. He was still selling illegal steroids to make most of his money. For years, Bieber was in hiding and could not be tracked down anywhere.

That all came to an end on December 26, 2003, when Bieber was pulled over in a stolen BMW in Leeds, England by police officers. The police had a feeling that they weren’t dealing with just any ordinary person and immediately called for back up. Bieber realizing he was in jeopardy of being outed, took out a gun and began firing at the cops…hitting all three of them. Officer Neil Roper was shot twice in the shoulder and once in the abdomen, but was able to successfully flee, Officer James Banks was shot once, but the bullet hit his radio and ricocheted off of him. Officer Ian Broadhurst was shot once in the back and fell to the ground immobilized. David Bieber then walked up to the injured Broadhurst and pointed the gun at the officer’s head and fired one shot at point blank range, while Broadhurst pleaded for his life. Ian Broadhurst was 34 years old.

After killing Officer Broadhurst, Bieber disappeared again…this time however, multiple leads allowed the police to locate Bieber in a hotel room five days later. Bieber was finally caught and arrested. He was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder and was eventually sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in prison. Sadly, the story does not end there, as in 2017, while in prison, Bieber used an iron rod and turned it into a make shift weapon to repeatedly stab female prison guard Alison Smith. Luckily, she survived her injuries. David Bieber remains in prison overseas and was never formally tried for the murder of Markus Mueller.
