This Week in Wrestling: Week 52 of 2025

I do enjoy watching lucha libre, but admittedly am not an avid viewer. I seem to be watching AAA more and more lately and I must give credit to Triple H’s creative crew for the renewed interest in watching their shows on YouTube. The storylines and matches have been entertaining and easy to follow. Overall, AAA has been a must see TV for me lately.

I have to admit that when I heard that WWE purchased AAA I had some doubts that they would stay true to lucha libre. Perhaps they haven’t, but watching their programming has been awfully entertaining. El Hijo Del Vikingo is an amazing luchador, but the Mexican fans rejected him as being THE guy in AAA. After a few attempts to push him as a top technico, AAA did the natural thing and turned him heel and it has paid off.

He now appears to be a member of a heel faction consisting of the giant Omos and Dorian Roldan. Add to that the continued successful run of Dominik Mysterio as the Mega Champion. Dom has really nailed  his character perfectly and it has gotten over with AAA fans. Sure, it is a homage to the late, great Eddie Guerrero, but does it so well it is over. Then you have El Grande Americano which is being portrayed by Ludvig Kaiser.

The gimmick was meant for Chad Gable, but since he has been out injured, Kaiser has really stepped in and made that gimmick his own. I honestly don’t know if Gable will ever get that role back. The English commentary on the AAA shows have helped me understand the luchadors that I am not familiar with. So all of this combined has allowed me to sit back and enjoy lucha libre immensely. Not since Lucha Underground have I been this invested in lucha libre. Granted, I am not a die hard fan of Lucha, so I really don’t know how authentic AAA really is, but it has been great nonetheless.

  • Been a huge hole in my wrestling since Lucha Underground ended so I also enjoy seeing AAA, since TKO bought them it’s definitely put more eyes on AAA while having the crossover WWE stars add extra variety to their matches. Natalya has definitely thrived there she had an excellent ‘competitive’ match with Faby Apache as well as Legado de Fantasma & Lola Vice. Would like to see Damien Priest have a run there as he’s stale in WWE atm & Guilia if they don’t improve her angles on SD.
Elektra Lopez is succulently sublime mamacita!!

  • Never cared about Lucha, likely never will. But Dom is by far my favorite luchador of all time. That line about keeping “my father’s name out of your mouth” about Eddie to Ray might have just pushed him into my top 10 all time.
