The ‘If Factor’ are a series of articles that takes a look at real scenarios in pro wrestling that at one point or another were suggested, planned, considered…but did not get the green light to continue. What would the landscape of professional wrestling look like if these ideas came to fruition?

The If: The Bellas Originally Planned Debut

The Bella Twins debuted on WWE’s main roster in 2008, first with Brie Bella and then Nikki a couple of weeks later to reveal themselves as twin sisters. They were dubbed “Twin Magic” and briefly feuded with Victoria. This was not the original plan for the Bellas debut with the company. Nikki and Brie were scheduled to debut about a year earlier in 2007 and be a part of a major storyline.

According to Brian Myers formerly known as Curt Hawkins in WWE, the original idea was to have the Bellas debut as the nieces of Vickie Guerrero. At the time, Guerrero was involved as a love interest for Edge. Together, they formed a faction that had members like Chavo Jr, Bam Neely, Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins as ‘La Familia.’ Curt Hawkins revealed that Vickie would introduce the twins as her nieces and they would be involved in a romantic storyline with the ‘Edge Heads’ of Ryder and Hawkins and become members of the faction themselves.

The plan was ultimately scrapped because Vince McMahon believed that the Bellas were not ready to debut on television at that time. Of course the Bellas became big stars for WWE and made a fortune outside the company. Would the career of the Bellas look like any different if they were placed in a storyline as Vickie Guerrero’s nieces?
