This is the 470th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Big John Thudd

In the Summer of 1986, lly Jack Haynes made his WWF debut in a dark match where he teamed with Paul Roma in a losing effort to King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd. According to Billy Jack, he was supposed to get in a good amount of offense in the match to look good, before making a tag to Roma, who would do the “job” for the team. During the match, Haynes said that King Kong Bundy sold all of Haynes offesive moves. When it came time for John Studd to do the honors, Haynes delivered a drop kick, to which Studd simply stood there and swatted him away.

Haynes was furious and after tagging in Roma, stood on the ring apron giving Studd the middle finger. After the match ended, Haynes sought out Studd in the dressing room and found him taking off his ring boots. Haynes started screaming at Studd asking why he no sold his moves and Studd allegedly told Billy Jack to go “Fuck off.” Haynes said he then slapped Studd as hard as he could across his face, which dropped Studd to one knee. Haynes then slapped him a second time as Studd was trying to get to his feet. Haynes begged Studd to get up and fight…but wrestlers separated the two and nothing else happened after that.

Love and Miscarriage of Justice

In August of 2020, wrestlers Tess Blanchard and Miguel Olivo aka Daga were married in Mexico. Less than three years later, in January of 2023…the couple announced their separation and pending divorce. This, after Daga posted a very mysterious message on social media which simply read…

Obviously, Daga was accusing Tessa Blanchard of cheating on him during their marriage. After the social media post was made, it was eventually deleted and soon after Daga and Tessa posted a joint statement announcing their split.

The statement read as follows:

After considerable thought, reflection, and mixed emotions, we have decided to separate. We are two strong-willed, hard-working, and resilient people who hold Nothing but love for each other. As painful as divorce is, we are thankful that no infidelity or other interested were involved in our decision, and we are patting as friends. We both want to see each other succeed and reach the pinnacle of success in our business and life. We want to thank you all in advance as we navigate the next chapter of our lives, and we ask that you respect our privacy and keep us in your prayers.

Tessa Blanchard has been no stranger to controversy being accused in the past of making racist comments towards a fellow wrestler, bullying other wrestlers, refusing to return to work for Impact Wrestling after becoming their world champion and having a falling out with Women of Wrestling after being announced as one of the centerpieces of that promotion.

Oh, It’s That Guay!

“Hangman’ Neil Guay wrestled in places like the NWA, AWA,WWWF and all over the world throughout his 20 plus year career. He wrestled mainly as a heel and was hated by many fans worldwide. Guay recalled an incident that took place at a show in South Africa where a small riot broke out and fan slashed his arm with a knife.

Guay went to a hospital in the area and encountered a doctor who was a big wrestling fan. The doctor recognized Guay and according to Guay misled him into thinking the slash wound was not that serious due to the doctor hating Guay as a wrestler. Guay said that his arm got infected and began becoming gangrenous. He left the rest of the tour in South Africa and returned home in Montreal to save his arm from being amputated.

Say It Ain’t Joe

Todd ‘Joe’ Krantz was a trained MMA fighter, gym owner, wrestling promoter and known gangster. Krantz was a member of a gang called ‘The Independent Soldiers’ and was heavily involved in drug trafficking in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. Krantz was also a one time owner/promoter of the Vancouver based Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling organization from 2001 until it folded in 2004.

On October 20, 2008…while walking in the stairwell of the gym World Extreme Fighting Club that he owned…Krantz was cornered by at least one gunman, who opened fire on him. Krantz was shot numerous times and was dead at the scene. It is believed a rival gang was responsible for Krantz’s murder, but no arrests were ever made. Todd ‘Joe’ Krantz was just 28 years old at the time of his murder.
