This is the 163rd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Someone Wants to Be Sleeping in My Bed

Back in the early days of TNA wrestling, there was an interviewer who went by the name of Goldy Locks. Years after she was let go by the company, Goldy came out and accused a former TNA “investor” of sexual harassment. While she never revealed the individual by name, she insists that this person made several unwarranted sexual advances towards her.

Goldy alleged that she went to others in upper management about the issue and was basically told to keep quiet. The upper management feared that if she went public with the harassment claim, the investor might pull out his money from the upstart company. It would also be extremely difficult for TNA to lock up sponsors to their programming. Goldy Locks never went public with the harassment charges. She was kept on the payroll for a few more weeks, but was used sparingly and ultimately let go by TNA.
Hold the Maynez

Carlos Maynez was the promoter for the once highly successful Universal Wrestling Association (UWA) based in Mexico from 1987 to 1995. In 1997, a couple of years after the UWA folded, Maynez along with union leader Manny Guzman were abducted after attending a wrestling show in Mexico.
A few hours after they both went missing, police discovered that Maynez bank account was drained of all of its funds. A week or so later, Manny Guzman was released by the kidnappers but Maynez continued to be held hostage. Police feared Carlos Maynez to be dead but the kidnappers called and demanded $100,000 for his release. Details are sketchy as to how Maynez got released, but eventually he was and was in ill health for several years after his abduction. Carlos Maynez passed away in 2015.
Get the Funk in the Ring

At an independent show several years back, the then NWA world champion Dan ‘The Beast’ Severn was walking backstage after a match when somebody threw water on him. When Severn looked up, he realized it was Marti Funk (the wife of Dory Funk Jr.) Severn was visibly upset and confronted Marti about what she did. Marti Funk claimed that she did it playfully as a joke, but Severn didn’t buy that.

Marti’s husband Dory Jr. intervened and confronted Severn. Funk told Severn if you want to be a tough guy, do it against another man not a woman. Several people in the arena tried to calm both Dory and Severn down, but Dory invited Severn to get in the ring and settle it like men. The two went into the ring and started to legitimately wrestle with Severn and Dory both shooting on each other.
Eyewitnesses claimed that while Severn had the upper hand in taking down Dory a number of times, it was Dory who was stretching Severn out on the mat. Finally, it was Severn who broke away and walked off. Dan Severn claims it was not to “kill” Dory in the ring. At the time, Dory was 57 years old and Severn was 39. Police were called in and they interviewed the Funks and the promoter about what happened. To avoid anybody being arrested, they claimed it was part of the show (even though, most of the fans in attendance were already gone and the ring crew had started to clean up.)
Going Dutch

Dutch Mantell was at one time the booker for the late Victor Quinones IWA promotion in Puerto Rico. According to former ECW star ‘The Spanish Fly’ Angel Medina, Mantell would treat a lot of the latino talent differently than others. A lot of them were housed in condos owned by Quinones and Mantell was like an evil landlord who ruled over them. In one such instance, a fellow wrestler brought a girl home with him and the two had sex in a make shift room in a walk in closet.

Mantell came by looking for this wrestler and asked Medina where he was at. Medina covered for the said wrestler, but Mantell looked throughout the condo for him anyway. When Mantell discovered the couple having sex, he kicked them out. Dutch Mantell then apparently took his anger out on Medina telling him to never lie and disrespect him again. Soon, Angel Medina started being treated poorly by Mantell and was forced to leave the condo himself.
Angel Medina wound up quitting the IWA and going back home to the states. A few years later, Medina got a call from fellow wrestler Homicide about coming to TNA to be his tag team partner in LAX. The deal was made, but at that time Dutch Mantell had become a booker in TNA. When he found out that Medina was being brought in, he changed plans and brought in Shaun Hernandez instead. Medina, who was justifiably upset, vowed to piss on Dutch Mantell’s casket after he dies. He also claims that even though Mantell worked for years in Puerto Rico, he is a blatant racist.
