This is the 344th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Résistance is Futile
In the early 2000’s in WWE, the Dudley Boyz faced off against a new team called La Resistance consisting of Rene Dupree and Sylvan Grenier. According to Bubba Ray Dudley, the team was so green and inexperienced that the Dudleys became completely frustrated. The Dudleys decided to “go into business” for themselves and work the rest of the match super stiff…meaning they hit La Resistance with hard kicks and punches to teach them a lesson.
When the match was over, Sylvan Grenier walked up to the Dudley Boyz very angry and asked why they were so rough on them. Grenier continued by saying he and Dupree were new and didn’t deserve such treatment. Bubba Ray said all that did was piss him and D-Von off and Bubba claimed he walked right up to Grenier and open hand slapped him in the face. Grenier then walked away without saying another word.
Don’t Raise Hayes
During their days with World Class Championship Wrestling, the Freebirds of Michael Hayes and Terry Gordy rented an apartment together on the outskirts of Dallas, Texas. According to Hayes, he and Gordy trashed the place by having wild parties and just acting crazy and juvenile overall. Furniture was destroyed, they left holes in the walls and their carpet was stained from spilled food, booze and vomit.
Hayes also recalled how their electric bill for the apartment was extremely high. That was due to them constantly having the lights on and the air conditioners running 24/7. To combat that high bill, Hayes had an electrician friend switch wires with his upstairs neighbor who was hardly ever home. Hayes said their electric bill dropped from hundreds of dollars to nearly nothing at all. Hayes said that the other reason they stole their neighbor’s electricity was because the neighbor also happened to be the Freebirds drug dealer. Hayes claimed that at the time, the Freebirds felt that the neighbor overcharged them for drugs because they were wrestlers and decided to get even by stealing his electricity.
Hyde and Creep
Pro wrestling photographer and personality Jesska Hyde has come out and accused wrestler and current WWE producer Gregory ‘Hurricane’ Helms of groping her about 8 years ago. According to Hyde, Helms was wrestling on a show in the United Kingdom, when Hyde approached Hurricane to talk wrestling. She accused Helms of grabbing her butt numerous times during the conversation.
When she told Helms she wasn’t interested in him that way, she claims he continued touching her in a sexual way. Hyde said the late wrestler known as ‘Lionheart’ noticed the situation and confronted Hurricane and went as far as to threaten him with physical harm if he didn’t back off. Jesska Hyde said she didn’t name Hurricane Helms in the Speaking Out movement of June 2020, because she said she feared being sued by Helms and WWE. It wasn’t until she saw Helms appear at the Royal Rumble 2021, that triggered her to say something. Hurricane Helms has not addressed these accusations.
Vegas Crackpot
John Washington aka Owen Travers is a pro wrestler who has worked for such promotions as Ring of Honor and Impact Wrestling. He also appeared as enhancement talent on WWE Smackdown in a tag team match against the Miz and Shane McMahon….as well as a security guard who accompanied Goldberg to the ring. Washington was arrested in November of 2020 in Las Vegas Nevada.
Washing was arrested in connection to alleged sex crimes committed against a juvenile. The charges include…..several counts of sexual assault against a child under the age of 16, lewdness with a child under the age of 14 and lewd acts committed by person over 18 with a child 14-15 years of age. John ‘Owen Travers’ Washington is 33 years old.
