This is the 364th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Masking the Pain

A masked tag team called ‘The Blackhearts’ consisting of Tom Nash and Dave Johnson were on a tour of All Japan Pro Wrestling in 1993. They had quickly developed a reputation of “being stiff” on all of their opponents while overseas. So much so, that it began angering other wrestlers in the locker room. The Blackhearts felt that they needed to be stiff because it was Japan and wanted to earn people’s respect.

All Japan promoter Shohei Baba decided to book the Blackhearts in a match against Dan Spivey and Stan Hansen. The Blackhearts were immediately taught a lesson by two of All Japan’s top Gaijins. Hansen and Spivey threw real punches and kicks on their opponents. Hansen legitimately hit one of the Blackhearts over the head with a chair, causing him to bleed through his mask. Adding insult to injury, Hansen hit the team with two very stiff lariats. The Blackhearts were reportedly sent to the hospital for a few days before being sent home.

The Dusty Trail

In 1988, the ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police pulled over Rhodes and spotted an open bottle of Jack Daniels between his legs. Rhodes allegedly became belligerent with the officers and taken into custody. After being released on bond, Dusty immediately left Las Vegas and returned to North Carolina.

When his court date came up, Rhodes did not appear. The judge in the case issued a warrant for his arrest and for Rhodes to be extradited back to the state of Nevada. Unfortunately, no word of how this case ultimately ended up.

No Chance in Hell

Mel Chancey was the president of the Chicago chapter of the biker club called the Hell’s Angels. Chancey appeared on WCW’s Monday Nitro program escorting the nWo to the arena….he was also good friends with Hulk Hogan. Mel Chancey also tried his hand at a career as a pro wrestler under the moniker of ‘Mr. 187’ on the independent scene. He even had a tryout with the WWF’s then developmental league OVW. His wrestling career didn’t last as promoters found it harder to book him as dozens of Hell’s Angels would sit ringside…scaring other fans away.

As a member of the Hell’s Angels, Chancey was involved in drug trafficking and violent confrontations with rival bikers. While not going into great detail of his violent past…he did admit to brutalizing and torturing one man with a baseball bat and left it at that. Chancey was arrested a few times including for drug possession and another time for racketeering. In 2005, Chancey was sentenced to 9 years in prison.

After Chancey was released from prison, he found a new lease in life. He turned his life over to God and became a motivational speaker. He never charges for speaking engagements as he says he feels he owes society a great deal because of all his past violent transgressions.

Jacq Of All Trades

Jacqueline Moore was often considered just one of the boys during her wrestling career. She wrestled for several promotions and territories including Memphis, Puerto Rico, WCW, TNA and the WWF. Moore is a former two time WWF women’s Champion and a former WWE Cruiserweight champ. In 2016, Jacqueline was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame.

Jacqueline has never been shy of revealing herself in storylines. She had an “accidental” slip during a bikini contest against Sable and had her top ripped off during a match on the WWF’s United Kingdom pay per view Capital Carnage in 1998. Before any of those R rated moments took place….Moore showed a lot less in a series of photographs completely nude. Were they photos to audition for a men’s magazine like Playboy? Were they personal pics that somehow ended up in the internet universe? We may never know the answer.
