This Week in Wrestling: Week 37 of 2026

It was announced this week that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is returning to NXT programming. This time, tag teams from NXT, Evolve and AAA will be represented. The single elimination tournament definitely is reminiscent of the old Crockett Memorial Cup tournament from the NWA back in the 80’s. The announcement of the tournament made some fans notice that there would be no representation from TNA.

While TNA was never an official brand of WWE, they did have a longstanding working agreement with the company. With TNA seemingly being snubbed from the tournament, it led some to speculate that the partnership has perhaps ended. The last time WWE and TNA collaborated on anything was during the TNA Knockouts TV title tournament. NXT’s Thea Hail was a participant in that tourney. Keep in mind there has been no official announcement that TNA and WWE have ceased working together. It still didn’t stop the rumors from spreading.

If in fact the working agreement has ended, how would you categorize how it helped or hindered each promotion? Let’s start with WWE in particular NXT. The brand definitely received a boost by featuring various TNA talents. The Hardy Boyz even captured the NXT tag team titles for a brief period of time. It also helped WWE secure talent like Joe Hendry, Jordynn Grace and Mike Santana. So, in that respect, it benefited WWE.

As for TNA, I truly believe that having NXT wrestlers on their programming helped spike attendance with people like Trick Williams, Jacy Jayne, Kelani Jordan and Arianna Grace all winning TNA gold. I do believe that TNA was able to secure a TV deal with AMC because of their relationship with WWE. I am not trying to take away any of the hard work TNA president Carlos Silva did with his team and all the great work from their roster…but in all honesty…the overall brand of WWE holds a lot of weight and it could have helped in their negotiations.

The partnership had some positives for both sides. If it has indeed ended, TNA came out a little bit stronger than when they started. Just my opinion. It’s just unfortunate that we never got to see WWE main roster talent really do anything in this deal. It could have added some spice to the deal and in turn perhaps help some talent get over on both sides.
