This Week in Wrestling: Week 17 of 2026

Gunnar Eudy the son of the late Sid Eudy (Sycho Sid Vicious) made some headlines this past week, when he announced on social media that he and some investors placed a bid to purchase the old Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, Tennessee. As cool as it would be to see such a historical venue…especially for professional wrestling get saved, it might be more work than what it’s worth to renovate it. Keep in mind, that the Mid South Coliseum has been abandoned for over 20 years. That is a long time for a building to be neglected.

The Mid-South Coliseum - Memphis, TN - The Art of Abandonment

Major repairs to the infrastructure have to be made and honestly, it may cost more than the actual purchase price of the building. If Gunnar is able to win the bid and purchase the venue, I wish him nothing but the best of luck and hope he can restore the Mid-South Coliseum to its once great self. Personally, I have never been to an event there, but my fandom of watching and reading about classic matches involving Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, Terry Funk, the Rock N Roll Express, Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert, ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage and Andy Kaufman makes me want to root for Gunnar all the more! Lucha Underground Rises Again?

So, there was this little teaser on Twitter/X on Lucha Underground’s official handle. Apparently it has been dormant for a number of years ever since the TV show was canceled. Now this brief teaser pops up and it has got fans talking. Does this mean LU is returning? Nobody seems to know for sure.

Lucha Underground while not real competition to WWE, was extremely innovative and helped put many wrestlers on the proverbial wrestling map. Many of LU’s original stars have moved on to bigger and better things and with WWE now owning AAA, does this mean LU uses talent from other places in Mexico like CMLL or Crash?

Does this even mean LU is actually returning as a company? Is Robert Rodriguez involved again? Fun questions to think about while we await more details on exactly what we saw this past week.

I wish Gunnar well. I am honestly surprised the Mid South Coliseum is still around. But it would be great if it could be restored and become to home to Wrestling again.
