Danhausen: Are you a Fanhausen?

I’ll gladly be the first one to admit that I don’t get the entire Danhausen gimmick. Obviously, it is a comedic gimmick. He seems to be a cross between Papa Shango and R-Truth. Very evil and very goofy. When Danhausen debuted at the Elimination Chamber in Chicago, there appeared to be a lot of moans and groans from fans live in attendance. Afterwards, many online compared his debut to that of the Gobbledy Gooker. Yikes!

Since then, Danhausen has made several appearances, and the reception is nothing like that of the one time Survivor Series mascot. Danhausen has been cheered and pretty loudly. He hasn’t wrestled a single match yet, but fans have seemingly gravitated towards this character. I know he once wrestled for AEW and was barely used. Some say, it was because he was a friend of CM Punk and we need not get into Punk’s ordeal with AEW management again.

Regardless if Danhausen was hired because of Punk and punished because of that friendship…the fact remains he was hired by WWE and all of a sudden the guy is over. Word has it his merchandise is a top seller for the company. Not too shabby for a gimmick I still don’t fully grasp.

I loved Danhausen until I heard him out of character. The guy should never break kayfabe. As soon as I forget about this, I’m gonna love him again.
Which is strange, because I don’t get the gimmick either…

Danhausen is basically an updated take on the old local TV Horror Movie hosts. I could easily see something like “Saturday at 11 PM, it’s Brides of Dracula hosted by Danhusen, plus the winners of the big Horror Movie package are announced on Shock Theater.”
