This Week in Wrestling: Week 9 of 2026

So, after all the hoopla behind Netflix purchasing Warner Bros, it ended up that Paramount ultimately outbid them and won the rights to the company. When I first heard this, I immediately thought that Tony Khan and All Elite Wrestling could breathe a sigh of relief. After all, with Netflix partnering with WWE, there was no way it would do business with a rival wrestling promotion. That was my take initially, but after doing some research…Netflix buying Warner Bros was actually the best case scenario for AEW.

Let me explain. If Netflix had won the bidding war, all Netflix wanted was their movie studios and rights to certain licenses that WBD owned. Their TV assets like Discovery, CNN, TBS, TNT were not included in the deal and would have been spun off from the acquisition. Since WBD owned a small percentage of AEW, they could and probably would continue to air AEW Dynamite and Collision as normal. Now that Paramount bought EVERYTHING, including all of their TV assets, things might be a bit more dire for AEW’s future on those networks.

TKO (WWE’s parent company) has a deal with Paramount that airs UFC. So, will TKO play hardball and get AEW removed? That is a possible likelihood. AEW’s biggest ally was WBD President David Zaslav. He just sold his stock in WBD for about 114 million dollars. He will certainly be out and with him no longer calling the shots, AEW lost their biggest ally. If AEW is cancelled from their network home, where does AEW go from there?
