A gimmick is something that is intended to hook the attention of fans to a wrestler. They may be outrageous or steeped more in reality, whatever the case may be…some have succeeded and many others have failed. The Gimmick Table takes a look at the origins of some of your favorite and not so favorite gimmicks of professional wrestlers.
Today we browse the gimmick of Timeless Toni Storm

The original concept for the Timeless gimmick happened during the pandemic lockdown in 2020. Tony Khan said he had a lot of time to watch TV and classic films. Two of his favorite movies were Sunset Boulevard and All About Eve and started thinking about ways to incorporate those movies into storylines. Fast forward to 2023, and Tony finally found his muse for a character based on those classic movies.
Toni Storm was the wrestler Tony wanted to become a sort of “Hollywood starlet.” The two went to work on ideas of how to present the new gimmick. Toni started watching the Sunset and Eve films to garner inspiration. According to her, she patterned her character after old time actresses Norma Shearer and Gloria Swanson. While both Tony Khan and Toni Storm brainstormed on the look and presentation of the character, it wasn’t until RJ City added his ideas and began producing Timeless Toni’s promos and vignettes that the gimmick truly hit its stride.
Storm made the character into a paranoid, oversexualized wannabe starlet. The gimmick added wrestler Luther as Toni’s butler much like Max in the movie Sunset Blvd and Mariah May was added as an obsessed fan turned protege then turned bitter rival like in the movie All About Eve. The Timeless gimmick was highly praised by many in and out of the wrestling industry and won two consecutive Best Gimmick awards from the Wrestling Observer.
