She was a former professional bodybuilder who became a wrestler. She joined World Championship Wrestling and aligned with Harlem Heat. Today on the blog, we ask…’Whatever Happened To’ Midnight?

Ann-Marie Crooks was born in Jamaica in 1965. Her and her family would eventually move the the United States where Crooks decided to join the U.S. Air Force. Crooks spent two years deployed in Germany. After her brief time in the military, Crooks began lifting weights. She eventually started a career as a professional bodybuilder.

Crooks would compete in several competitions and won Ms. Sunshine State in 1992. She also placed strong in several other bodybuilding competitions up until 1998. She readily admitted the use of steroids during her career. It was then that Crooks decided to try and give professional wrestling a try.

Crooks traveled to Atlanta, Georgia and began training at the WCW Power Plant. Within a year, Crooks was signed by the company and was booked under the name ‘Midnight.’ She was a “relative” of both Booker T and Stevie Ray of Harlem Heat and became their valet in 1999. Stevie Ray wanted her to leave the team so he challenged her to a match in which he lost. That led to Harlem Heat splitting up with Midnight remaining with Booker T as a babyface.

Midnight wrestled a few matches mostly against men including Curt Hennig and Perry Saturn. She also had a small feud with Asya and wrestled a couple of matches against her. While her career was beginning to take off, Crooks became disenchanted with the way things were handled in WCW. She saw valets that didn’t take a bump or get physical whatsoever make more money than she was (who was getting physical). She hated all the backstage politics in WCW and decided to walk away from the business entirely.

So the question remains…whatever happened to Midnight? Ann Marie Crooks became a successful licensed realtor and resides in the South Florida area with her husband.
